Fishermen collected and gut 220 Mobula Rays in Gaza
On February 27th, 220 mobula rays have been spotted dead on a beach in the Gaza strip. The last time these rays were seen in the region was six years ago.
It’s still not clear how these mobula rays died in such a large quantity and washed up on the beach in Gaza..
This comes just a few days before the next CITES meeting in Bangkok, where rules for international trade of several ray and shark species will be voted on to protect them better.
These smaller mobula rays face the same threats as mantas yet they have not been proposed for protection under CITES.
